Wollastonite has stable chemical components with alkalinity close to 1, which enables it to be an ideal raw material for metallurgical slag in insulation and lubricating casting billet by its excellent thermal stability. It can reduce the use of auxiliary metallurgical slag through simplifying processing and cutting cost, which is widely used in die casting, continuous casting (slab, billet), synthetic slag and stainless steel continuous casting, etc. Our wollastonite products, low in Al, S and P, low melting point and viscosity, enhances its capability in absorbing Al2O3 and other impurities when used in metallurgical slag.

Wollastonite use in Metallurgical

wollastonite is used due to its low water solubility, low loss on ignition and its Ca–Si ratio. Wollastonite is commonly added to formulated powders for steel casting and welding. A CaO/SiO2 ratio of 1 readily absorbs Al2O3 that is detrimental to finished steels. The addition of wollastonite to metallurgical fluxes provides ready fusibility, good insulating qualities and low viscosity. Because wollastonite is a natural, low temperature flux, it has found acceptance in fluxing formulations used in the continuous casting of steel. When molten steel is poured continuously from a ladle or tundish, a casting powder is applied to maintain surface defects, prevents oxidation of the steel, lubricates the mold wall and absorbs harmful inclusions.

Welding materials and fluxes

Wollastonite is used for electrode coating to accelerate the melting speed and improve the fluidity of slag. It has the advantages of energy saving, anti porosity, strengthening weld strength, promoting weld surface smooth, improving droplet transfer, accelerating coating melting speed, etc.
